Cost Analysis of A Big Box Store that is in need of 90 circuits at 1,000 ft. Each.

There are 3 options to meet the requirements of the National Electric Code (NEC).

  • Ten runs of one thousand feet of 12x 3.5” underfloor raceways to handle 9 circuits per raceway which is what is allowed for the current NEC requirements due to the 2005 derating. This is the most costly.
  • One run of one thousand feet of 12x 3.5” underfloor raceway plus 9 runs of one thousand feet of PVC conduits. There would be 9 circuits per raceway and PVC conduit. There will be more labor costs and a greater risk of having to cut up floors for necessary reconfiguration.

  • The cost for option #2 is $340,000. The cost is $180,000 for 100 ten foot sections of raceway and nine thousand feet of additional PVC conduits at a cost of $160,000. Each raceway and PVC conduit could hold 9 circuits.  No labor included but labor costs are more for this option.
  • The cost for option #3 is $192,500. $180,000 for 100 ten foot sections of raceway and $12,500 for the CVC coolWIRE support system.  Each raceway could hold 90 circuits.  This option requires less labor costs and allows easy reconfiguration if necessary.
